Tennis Terms

1. Score

   • 0 is read as "love" (in Vietnamese, it means "love"). Example:

     • 0-15: love-fifteen

     • 0-30: love-thirty

     • 15-15: fifteen-all

     • 30-30: thirty-all

     • 40-40: deuce /dius/

2. Lead

   • Nadal leads 1-0: Nadal leads 1 game to love

   • Nadal leads 2-0 in the match: Nadal leads 2 sets to love

   • Nadal leads 2-1: leads 2 sets to 1

3. Calls and Challenges

   • Foot-fault: When a player steps on the baseline while serving.

   • Challenge: Nadal challenges the call, the ball was called out. (Example: Nadal challenges the umpire's decision; the ball was called out.)

4. Audience Order

   • The umpire simply says: "Thank you" to request silence.

5. Serve

   • Second Serve: When a player serves again, usually said as "Second service".

   • Double Fault: Error made on both serves.

   • Let: If the ball touches the net on a serve, the umpire says "Let", followed by First serve or Second serve if it’s the second attempt.

6. Out of Bounds

   • After the baseline (back boundary): "long"

   • Outside the sidelines: "out" or "wide"
